Hey guys! Fishing right now in Quepos is ridiculous. Boats are catching a ton of Sailfish, some nice Dorado, a lot of Marlin and some HUGE Tuna!

A lot of people are talking about how we got started late this year and how it is looking like this bite is not going anywhere anytime soon… I wonder if this is a change that is here to stay? Probably not, but we’ll see.

Quepos Fishing Report

The Frenzy fished Sunday and released 5 Sailfish and then Monday released a Marlin, a Dorado and 2 Sailfish. The Big Eye II has had a couple of good days recently, catching a 350lb Tuna one day and releasing 7 Sails on the fly another day.

The Fishing Maching released 4 Sails and a Mahi Sunday and the Moonwalker released 3 Sailfish and one Black Marlin.

Other news on the Quepos front is that the Marina is moving along nicely. I am going to be down there to take some good photos soon to show the progress thus far.

The other changes around Quepos that I notice are different everyday… today I noticed that there are people at the Paquita bridge directing traffic. This one-way bridge used to be a game of “who can get to the bridge first” to decide who would get to cross. This would lead to lines hours long as the one-way traffic prohibited the other way from passing. Now we have to wait our turn in a much more organized and timely fashion.

And all of this only months before the new bridge is finished, making a two-way passage for traffic to come and go as they please without waiting. Welcome to Costa Rica!

Our trip was a success and we are getting settled into our apartment... you can check out more on our blog if you would like. 

Fishing in Quepos has still been pretty strong with most boats raising 10+ Sailfish and boating about 5. The Fishing Machine had a ton of different species which was pretty neat. They landed a Grouper, a Snapper, a Barracuda, a Dorado and a Sailfish. 5 different species!

The most interesting story of the last few days has been the 79-year-old angler who landed an estimated 400lb Blue Marlin on the fly... and boated him!!! 

The marina is now starting to look like it may be done before Neko enters grade school. The main retaining wall is almost complete and the second part is well on it's way.

As the season starts to slow down, we are still experiencing great fishing. And now that we are here for good, we will be experiencing it firsthand.  Also, now that we are here I will have something new for you guys over the next week or two, so stay tuned.

Hello everybody... I have had some luck getting reports back from some people as I am packing my bags to head down. I also got some pics of the huge Dorado that was recently caught and some pics from my brother and dad, who also fished last week on the Precedent.

I talked to Jerry recently and he said that fishing is going pretty well offshore. His boats landed two Marlin last week! 

I have not heard from most of the boats, but I did hear that the family did really well on the Precedent. They fished three days in a row and had great days all three.

The first day was full of six 40-50lb Yellowfin Tuna and a Sailfish. Day two was an inshore day. They released 3 Roosterfish during a full day off the shore of Domincal. And the third day they missed three Sails at the beginning of the day, trolled for another three hours to no avail, so they decided to stop trolling for a while and drop lines. They hooked up good on the bottom, bringing in some nice Red Snapper and some big Amberjack before calling it a day. 

The best part of the trip was that some of our Tico friends got to come on the boat that live in fishing paradise but rarely get a chance to fish. One of the guys, Harvey, is a cab driver around town and his dad is a diesel mechanic for a bunch of boats in Quepos. And between the Tuna on the first day and the Red Snapper and the Amberjack the second day, there was plenty of fillets to go around. My family made plenty of people happy for their "Semana Santa" (holy week) celebrations with the gift of fresh fish!

Well, so much for the up-to-date part of the site's description at the moment. I have been a little tied up lately.

However, I have heard some good things about the recent fishing in Quepos.  While the Sailfish bite is still holding strong for the month of March with boats still raising 10+ and boating 5+, there has been a nice little run of good sized YFT, some getting up into the 50-60lb range. Also, I have gotten a report of some huge Dorado being caught... the most specific being a 60+ pound monster. The angler who landed the Dorado, John Whitney, is supposed to be getting me some pictures in the next few days, so I should be able to post them soon.
