FEB 16: SNOOK BITE, FORUM IS UP Print E-mail

I am really sorry for the delay in the report, but I am preparing to go back to Quepos next week, so I promise a steady report next week...

I have posted a forum so you guys can help each other out before, during or after your fishing trips with ideas, experiences and pictures to keep us all stoked about Quepos fishing! So please join the forum... it will be a perfect place to meet future Quepos fishing people and get some insight on their travels. This will be a perfect place to find someone to share a charter with if you are not too stoked about fishing by yourself.

Fishing is still pumping, with many boats raising 15 sails a day. There has been a little Snook bite, with some boats landing 2 or 3 snook on some inshore trips. I haven't heard yet if they were of any size.

I will be in Quepos the latter part of next week, so stay tuned...

Until then,

FEB 6: SAIL BITE STILL STRONG, TUNA SHOWING BACK UP Print E-mail

Well the tuna are back. That is a good thing in my opinion. I love the action of a good school of tuna. Actually, that is one thing that I haven't checked off of my list... a 100+ pound tuna. I would like to reel in a beast like that before I go to the ocean in the sky.

The sailfish bite is still macking, with boats raising 10 to 20 a day and releasing 4 to 8, according to Lunatours. Jerry also said that the doradodolfinmahifish bite was still pretty strong, which is also not uncommon for this time of year.

Here are some reports from some other boats around the fleet... Mar I caught 5 sailfish, the Scorpion caught 3 sailfish and the Precedent had a three species day with 3 sails, 3 YFT and a dorado. Nice day!

I have some people asking for ways to communicate with other people coming down to fish. This was something that I was working on a while back and has now been revived... I will be posting a Quepos Fishing Report forum on the site so you guys can communicate.

I should have it posted by the end of the week, if Neko gives me some time to work on it!

FEB 2: HARRY GRAY FLY FISHING TOURNAMENT FINISHES Print E-mail

Its always a good time in Quepos when there is a tournament going on. Lots of fishing, drinking and competition. And usually raising a little bit of money for a good cause.

Over this past week, Quepos hosted the annual Harry Gray Fly Fishing Tournament. This tournament is held every year and raises money for the Transplant Center for Children in Costa Rica.

Fishing Report Feb 2nd, 2008

Over the four days of the tournament there were 142 Sailfish released total from the 14 boats that fished. There was also a Marlin in the mix.

First place went to the Swordfish from Quepos. This Quepos boat released 23 Sails over the 4 days. A boat from Golfito, the Quickrelease, took second with 20 Sails. The Gamefisher III that came all the way from Flamingo took third, releasing 17.

Other than the tournament, all species of fish seem to be hungrier than Yogi the Bear right now. Boats are reporting Sailfish everywhere. Sarita recently released six Sails and two Dorado in a day. And the Laura Roosterfish released 3 Sailfish and a 350lb Marlin.

Hope you are liking the report, I am seeing more and more people checking lately. Thanks. Stay tuned. When I get back to Quepos there will be daily pictures.

JAN 31: FIRST MONTH OF YEAR... IT WAS A GOOD ONE Print E-mail

The first month of 2008 has been a great entrance... some double digit Sailfish days and some Marlin hanging around late. I haven't heard of a boat getting skunked in the last week or so. I think February is going to be cruising.

Fishing Report January 31st, 2008

Boats all over the fleet are having ridiculous days. Both the Ojaran III and the CR Dream II had double digit days on the 29th and the Reel Deel had two different days with a Sail, a Marlin and a Mahi. Crazy!

I am really loving that the Marlin partying with us lately... they always add to the fun. With surprise rains coming in from time to time, I am a little surprised that we are not having a kick ass Dorado bite, but some boats are still catching two and three in a day.

The days seem so long as I spend more time in the states. I will be back on the docks the 18th... until then, you are going to have to put up with my reporting from afar.

Jan 22nd: Boats pulling 10 Sails! Print E-mail

I just got the report back from a few people and I would say that the fishing is nothing short of amazing right now. This is the time where Quepos bows it's chest and claims the title of best billfishing in the world. We are experiencing a heavy Sailfish bite and catching some nice Dorado. The inshore fishing is still going off, landing multiple Roosters every day. We haven't seen many YFT around, but that is not atypical for this time of year.

Quepos Fishing Report: January 22nd

The Precedent raised 20 Sails the other day and boated six of them. They also brought home two Dorado. The Frenzy caught eight Sails and three Dorado.

With a day to write home about, the Fishing Machine boated ten Sailfish and a Mahi. I have shot fish in a barrel... and still didn't get that many. Congrats to those clients, and to Chepe for putting them on all those fish.

Inshore the Wahoo released 4 Rooster and caught 2 Mackerel.  A great day inshore.

The fishing has definitely turned on here in Quepos. The time is here that we read about all year long! The only thing that sucks is that I am sitting in front of the computer and not pushing Imperials deep into the ice, heading to the hole.
