October 30, 2010 - weather improves...a little |
The guys on the 26' flybridge in Quepos wanted to go fishing yesterday but decided it was too stormy offshore and since it was just a fun fishing trip and not a charter they decided not to fish. Earlier this week they went out and caught 10 mahi mahi less than 15 miles offshore.
The 36' express from Los Suenos did a full day inshore north of Quepos and they had some good action and said the weather was decent. The seas laid down and there was some sunshine at times. The anglers were setting their own hooks and they landed some roosterfish and
some jack. One angler said he missed 10 bites and the other 2 guys
missed more than 10 bites. They bought a few lobsters from a local
fisherman and ended the day at a near by restaurant drinking beer, eating lobster and making fun of each other for missing so many fish...sounds like a good day |

October 29, 2010 - rainy offshore |
We had a lot of rain yesterday along the central Pacific coast. It started early afternoon and didn't let up until midnight. The small bridge by my house was 2 ft under water. There is a little sunshine out there this morning and a couple spots of blue skies.
Offshore yesterday was a little rough. A 42' that fished offshore north of Quepos said they were wet all day and had 5 ft seas. They caught 5 mahi and said they could have caught 20. The released a sailfish, raised 3 marlin hooked one and it broke off...not horrible fishing considering the conditions. Any time
you hook or even see a marlin it's a special day...I don't care if it's
the only fish you saw all day. Almost every captain down here will
trade 20 sailfish for one marlin.
The guys on the 36' express were out there north of Quepos in the rain and they
caught a black marlin...I know they caught some mahi mahi also but no
one talks about mahi mahi if they catch a black marlin. |

October 28, 2010 - Quepos fishing |
The weather on the central Pacific coast the past few days has been decent for October. We have had mostly cloudy days but just a little drizzle in the daytime. We have had some steady rains in the evening but that's normal.
The folks on the 36' Flybridge went out yesterday and caught a sailfish, a marlin and 10 mahi mahi in the 10 to 20 pound size. The mahi mahi are a good sign because when we have the little fish around the big ones soon follow.
It seems I spoke to soon about the weather...about noon today it opened up and just started dumping rain and heavy winds. |

October 26, 2010 - mahi mahi bite |
I talked to a couple captains today and they said there was good mahi mahi fishing just 5 to 10 miles out in front of Quepos.
If you are on a budget or limited with time the mahi mahi fishing can be a great half day trip. If the fishing is good you can catch 20 to 30 fish per day. They make for some great light tackle actions and they are delicious when fried up and made into fish tacos. You can also take your catch to one of the local restaurants and they will cook it up with some rice, beans, garden salad and a few cold beers.

We've lived in Costa Rica for 10 plus years and have been helping people find the best fishing since 2002.
We recently inherited Quepos Fishing Report from a friend of ours that moved away from Quepos.
We are currently updating the website with current boats, prices and info.
Our goal is to provide the best fishing reports from the central Pacific coast, including the towns of Quepos, Manuel Antonio, Jaco and Los Suenos.
Please send us an email or give us a call if you need any charter info.
